Antique Italian Painting of Horse and Rider. Originally from a collection of paintings in a Florentine villa. Signed - Initials in bottom left corner and name signed on back - Carlo Ademollo. Florence 1899 Carlo Ademollo (1824–1911) was an Italian painter from Florence and from an artistic family (his grandfather Luigi Ademollo was also a painter). He studied at the prestigious Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze under Giuseppe Bezzuol. He began exhibiting work in 1848, initially painting landscapes inspired by Tuscan scenery and life, eventually becoming known for his historic and patriotic subjects. He spent time around the Macchiaioli circle, a major Italian artists’ group of the era. The painting is likely to be a preparatory study or workshop piece.
